Hippy Jim
Jim Sloan, known by his friends as “Hippy,” is a late bloomer in the music world. He didn’t start playing music until his 40s. After retiring from the Army, he worked in sales, trucking, field supervision, and training. But always wanted something different.
He’s been involved with music for many years; he played saxophone in school bands, sang in choirs, and worked as an on-air personality at a local top-40 radio station during the early 1980s. After his military career, he started a part‑time DJ and karaoke business and occasionally performed with bands. In his 30s, he experimented with guitar. Later, with encouragement from friends and local musicians, he dedicated himself to music, performing at open mic and jam sessions, building a repertoire, and eventually leaving his job as a professional technical trainer in 2015 to pursue full-time music.
He now performs regularly along the Gulf Coast of Florida and Alabama, writes original music, and feels blessed for the opportunity to collaborate with talented local and national musicians.
